Bio: Michelle Sharpe

I believe I was born an artist, but it wasn't official until second grade when I created a colorful torn paper collage, which my art teacher promptly entered into my first art show. This event set in motion my life path and love affair with art (and tearing paper). Throughout high school, I took nearly every art course offered. I carried this passion into college where I graduated with a BFA in drawing and painting. After graduation, I decided to pursue a graduate degree in Art Therapy to combine my love of art with a "day job". My pursuit did not materialize a degree in Art Therapy or a lucrative job, but it was a catalyst for my cityscape series; it was in an Art Therapy course that I created my first cityscape Transition Place 1999. I have since created almost 40 cityscapes.

Eventually living and working in Chicago inspired me to begin creating two additional series, City Life and Open Bar. These series and my Cityscape series continue to grow.

I am a Chicago based artist. My anchor sinks deep in the Midwest where I maintain a love/hate relationship with winter and a love/muse relationship with the soul of the cities whose flavors seep into my artwork daily.
