| "Looking at the city and life
within it inspires my art. I often come up with new ideas while riding
the bus, reading the news, or watching the light play across the city
at different times of the day."
My art reflects human emotion and human experience. It examines
society and its blatant, as well as, its hidden messages. Some pieces
also represent a specific individual or topic. My cityscapes and my figures
both build upon shapes, words, style, texture, posture, and color to communicate
the message to the viewer. My art is meant to be viewed from a distance,
as well as, close up. At a closer vantage point, the texture and hidden
messages within the piece become apparent.
I use a variety of mediums to create my pieces, which are always
about the ‘building up’ of texture. The texture that I choose
can vary from magazine clippings, my own art, assorted paper, plaster,
or sawdust. I generally adhere the texture to a canvas, masonite, wood
or a paper surface. Once I have adhered the textural layer, I begin to
draw on top with oil sticks so that the image takes on more depth and
color. The color itself takes on the mood of the piece.
Looking at the city and life within it inspires my art. I often come
up with new ideas while riding the bus, reading the news, or watching
the light play across the city at different times of the day. I sometimes
approach new pieces without a preconceived idea. I enjoy playing with
the textures to see what image emerges from the medium.
